The Daily CHEW™
CHEW on God’s Love. Live Transformed. Multiply Hope
Last Tuesday at 2:17 AM, I found myself wide awake, mind spinning through an endless loop of “what-ifs.” A major client had asked for a comprehensive proposal on a year-long executive coaching engagement that could significantly impact our team’s growth, but my brain was already catastrophizing every possible scenario: What if our approach isn’t what they’re really looking for? What if the pricing is completely off? What if I’ve been reading their needs wrong? By 3 AM, I wasn’t just worried about the proposal—I was worried about worrying, creating anxiety about my anxiety.
Maybe you know this familiar spiral. Maybe it’s the Sunday night dread that starts creeping in around dinnertime, or the way your chest tightens when you think about that difficult conversation you’ve been avoiding, or the overwhelming sense that you’re always one bad decision away from everything falling apart. Maybe you’ve felt that exhausting combination of being a high-performer who “has it all together” while secretly battling a mind that rarely feels at peace.
Here’s what I’ve learned through my own struggles and years of walking with driven, successful people: anxiety isn’t primarily about external circumstances or even legitimate concerns. It’s about trying to find security and control in a world that offers neither, when our hearts haven’t been anchored in God’s unshakeable peace and sovereign care. When we operate from worry, even our most rational planning becomes another form of self-reliant striving. But God’s love offers something fundamentally different—a peace that doesn’t depend on having everything figured out or under control.
Finding Rest When Your Mind Won’t Quiet
Join me for a deeper CHEW right now—designed specifically for those moments when anxiety feels overwhelming and your thoughts won’t settle.
CHEW in 5-10 Minutes:
- Take five slow, deep breaths—breathing in God’s presence, breathing out the weight you’re carrying. Remember: God’s love for you exists right now, independent of whatever is causing your worry.
- Adore (2 minutes): “Father, You are sovereign over everything that’s making me anxious right now. You are powerful and good.”
- Confess (2-3 minutes): What specific fears are driving my anxiety? Where am I trying to control outcomes instead of trusting God? What’s the deeper fear underneath my worry—fear of failure, rejection, financial insecurity, loss of reputation, letting people down? Name it honestly before God.
- Hear (3-4 minutes): What truth about God’s love do I most need for this specific anxiety?
- “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid” – John 14:27
- “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus” – Philippians 4:19
- “We know that for those who love God all things work together for good” – Romans 8:28
- “Cast all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you” – 1 Peter 5:7
- “In quietness and in trust shall be your strength” – Isaiah 30:15
- Exchange (1-2 minutes): If God’s love truly secures me, I would exchange my need to figure everything out for trust in His wisdom. I would exchange my fear of worst-case scenarios for confidence in His good plans. I would exchange my mental spinning for rest in His care.
- Walk (1-2 minutes): What’s one practical step I can take today that flows from trust rather than anxiety? Maybe it’s making that difficult phone call I’ve been avoiding. Maybe it’s choosing to stop researching every possible outcome and instead taking the next right step. Maybe it’s setting a boundary around my worry time and choosing to pray instead of spiral.
- Thanksgiving & Worship (1 minute): Thank God specifically for His care over the situation causing your anxiety. Thank Him that His love for you doesn’t fluctuate with circumstances. Rest your mind in His goodness, not in your ability to control outcomes.
Additional Support for Deeper Anxiety
If anxiety persists or feels overwhelming: Consider extending this CHEW or returning to it multiple times throughout the day. Sometimes our minds need repeated encounters with God’s truth before peace takes root. There’s no shame in needing professional support alongside spiritual practices—God often works through counselors, doctors, and medication as expressions of His care.
For chronic anxiety: The goal isn’t to never feel anxious again, but to learn to return quickly to the truth of God’s love when anxiety arises. Each time you practice this CHEW, you’re creating new neural pathways that make peace more accessible.
Remember This
Gospel peace isn’t about having a worry-free life or perfect mental health. It’s about returning—again and again—to the love that holds you whether your fears materialize or dissolve, whether your circumstances improve or remain challenging. God delights in your trust, not your ability to manage every variable that makes you anxious.
CHEW On This™:
If I really believed God’s love is perfect security that can’t be threatened by any of my current worries, how would that change the way I approach uncertainty, plan for the future, and respond to anxious thoughts?
